HLC-152 San Francisco Dodges a Bullet

Welcome to the Harvard Lunch Club Political Podcast for December 5, 2017 – number 152 – it’s the San Francisco Dodges a Bullet edition of the show with your hosts Hartford radio guy Todd Feinburg and nanophysicist Mike Stopa.

Today we have special guest and good friend (really, she’s a friend…we have had a beer together at a restaurant and everything. I think it was twice even) Jessica Vaughan. Jessica is the Director of Policy Studies for the Center for Immigration Studies and about as knowledgeable as anyone in America about immigration issues. (And, did I mention? she’s a friend).

We will talk about the recent verdict in the Kate Steinle case and about illegal immigration in general. Could we shut down sanctuary city policies by systematically raiding restaurants, hotels, landscaping companies etc. in those cities and putting the owners of said companies in jail? Do that for four weeks in San Francisco and how long before the business owners in the city go over to E-Verify and a repeal of sanctuary status?

Our second topic is the recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to let the Trump travel ban go fully into effect. This is temporary, but suggests that the Supremes are leaning in a Trumpian way on this issue.

We will have our shower thoughts (actually, only mine. Todd begs off). and our hidden gem is from rising folk star John Craigie, I am California. (you’ll love it Dick from Brooklyn!).

This week also begins Mike’s blog over at Newsmax. I’ll give you a link when I get it. This week’s inaugural post: San(ctuary) Francisco Dodges a Bullet.
